QUESTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION

****************************************************************************************

For the next 21 Days, I will be sharing nuggets from John C. Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Law of Leadership.

****************************************************************************************

  • Join me below for DAY THIRTEEN - LEADERSHIP NUGGETS:

C13 - THE LAW OF REPRODUCTION

It Takes A Leader To Raise Up A Leader

  • Four out of five of all the leaders that you ever will meet will have emerged as leaders because of the impact made on them by established leaders who mentored them.

  • It Takes a Leader to raise up a leader.

  • Just about every successful coach in the NFL has spent time working with another strong leader who helped to teach and model for him.

SOME DO IT, SOME DON’T

  • Only leaders are capable of developing other leaders.

  • People cannot give to others what they themselves do not possess.

  • Followers simply cannot develop leaders.

  • All leaders do not develop other leaders.  Why?

    • Some don't realize the tremendous value of developing leaders.

    • Some may focus on and give so much to their followers that they have nothing left for their key staff.

    • For some, the real problem is insecurity.

    • Some feel to win you have to make others lose.

  • If you are attempting to keep others down, you have to go down with them.

RAISING UP GIANT KILLERS

  • Look at David and compare him to Saul.

  • It takes a giant killer to raise up giant killers.

  • It takes a leader to raise up leaders.

WE TEACH WHAT WE KNOW - WE REPRODUCE WHAT WE ARE

  • To develop as a leader, spend time with the best leaders I can find.

  • If just starting out, spend time with people in your field so that you can master the basics of your profession.

  • Once you have the foundation, learn leadership from people in many professions.

  • No matter what the profession, the principles of leadership remain the same.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

  • To develop other leaders, become a better leader yourself.

  • Remember, leaders who develop other leaders

    • SEE THE BIG PICTURE

      • Every effective leadership mentor makes the development of leaders one of his highest priorities in life.

      • He knows that the potential of the organization depends on the growth of its leadership.

      • The more leaders there are, the greater its chance of success.

    • ATTRACT POTENTIAL LEADERS

      • Ross Perot says,

        • "Leaders don't flock.  You have to find them one at a time."

      • If you first develop leadership qualities, you will be capable of attracting people with leadership potential.

      • When you do that and earn their respect, you will get the opportunity to develop them into better leaders.

    • CREATE AN EAGLE ENVIRONMENT

      • An environment where leadership is valued and taught becomes an asset to a leadership mentor.

      • It not only attracts eagles, but it helps them learn to fly.

      • An eagle environment is one where the leader:

        • Casts a vision

        • Offers incentives

        • Encourages creativity

        • Allows risks

        • Encourages accountability

  • Do that long enough with enough people and you'll develop a leadership culture where eagles flock.

THE IMPACT CARRIES OVER

  • If a company has strong leaders - and they are reproducing themselves - then the leadership just keeps getting better and better.

  • Leadership Development must be a top priority.

  • Company must be run by a great leader.

  • It all starts at the top.

  • It takes a leader to raise up a leader.

  • It takes one to know one, show one and grow one.

QUESTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION?

  1. Are you a Reproducing Leader?

  2. What leaders are you learning from? What is their profession/industry/industries?

  3. Are you in an environment that develops eagles or suppresse leadership? Share some specific instances below.
